I couldn't believe it when i read the story about a Pennsylvania man who fell 555 feet from a strip mine and survived the plunge. Rescuers where simply amazed to find Nathan bowman alive. They spent many hours descending into the mine to retrieve the injured man. police authorities said the man had been trespassing on coal company property about 1 a.m. Friday when he slipped and fell into the Springdale Pit, a mine that is no longer active. The mine is 700 feet deep, 3,000 feet long and 1,500 feet wide. The 23 year old man from tamaqua was in serious condition at St Luke's hospital in Bethlehem.
