Problems with cell phone updater and my wireless carrier

I have a cell phone contract with our wireless carrier Verizon wireless and I recently qualified for an upgrade on my current cell phone to one of my choosing but there's a catch to it. I would have to sign a new 2 year agreement. I went in to one of their stores a few days ago because I keep getting a message that my phone has a new software update and I've tried updating many times but after the update is downloaded and starts to install, I get an error message that it failed to update and I can't figure out why so that's why I took it into Verizon. The associate I spoke to was helpful to a certain point. I really don't think he knew what he was doing. He downloaded the update onto my phone just like I've been doing for the past few weeks and he handed the phone back to me as the update was installing and say's "see, here you go, your all set" not checking to make sure the update was successful, so I said to the man, umm sir? The download failed again, see, look for yourself. and so I showed him and he was speechless. Then he says, I'm sorry sir but there's nothing I can do. You obviously have a problem. Yeah, you think? Well, it turns out that in order for me to qualify for an upgrade, I will have to pay an early termination  fee of $200 plus the cost of the new phone $200. I don't think so. It made me so upset because I've been with Verizon for a long time but now I'll just deal with the problem of my current phone and maybe go with another carrier when this contract expires in September this year. I tell you, those phone carriers will do anything to get money out of you like hidden fees, extra charges, etc. Urgghhh. I'll figure out this update thing myself!!! I don't need your help Verizon!!!!! thanks for nothing!!!!

Aww, that sucks that you have to deal with something like that..

Maybe I can help, have you tried turning your phone off, and then turn it back on, check if your internet connection is okay, make sure all apps are closed and then try to update it again. hope this works for you! Good luck!

That really sucks. These companies are full of hidden fees, ripping people off. Their charges are out of this world too. Just like our cable company, they have all these fees making our bill so high.

We used to have Verizon but they were giving us grief so we switched!

Oh wow! some tech support are incompetent I must say :(. Google oftentimes is a better option. Too bad you will have to endure that issue without resolution. There might be some applications that needs to be shutdown/closed before doing the update? normally it's like that. (Just my thought)

Good luck!

I'm so sorry to hear about this matter mommy that also happened to you. I did upgrade once with verizon and somehow ended up returning the phone because it was defected. I also underwent a lot of crap with Verizon and indeed, they don't have control with their system. I hope you will resolve it mommy...

Oh! gee! thanks for the help for nothing...I bet that was a wasted time to deal with your cell phone problem :-( Yes! there are hidden fees and that they can only figure out :-( My cell phone is a plain one that is great for my husband to contact me especially when I am driving with my kids :-) I hope that you can fix your cell phone by yourself and not to pay for anything :-)

they'd ask to let you pay $400 for everything? wow! better stop using your phone until the contract ends and get another provider. some companies are really money suckers.

$200 is a lot of money! I think it's time you switch to another provider

Telecom companies do have hidden charges at all times. They just market their products in a way that consumers will think they have discounts or they get at a promo price.

Verizon was our first carrier. We were not satisfied with their services, so we switched to sprint.

I hate contracts and hidden fees, but I think that's the standard policy...well, not unless if you choose to do the prepaid.
