Disappointing loss for the San Diego Chargers

Yesterday my home team was playing the Denver Broncos for the AFC championship. Everyone here in San Diego was really excited because it's been a long time since the Chargers were in the AFC playoffs and most San Diegans were looking for the Chargers to win. Sad to say that the Chargers ended up losing the game 24-17.  I watched the 3rd quarter and they were losing 17-0 so I changed the channel. They played very poorly and it didn't look like the Chargers that I know of. Obviously Chargers fans are not happy and will have to wait another season. I personally didn't want to get my hopes up too high because they seem to do this every year and let us Charger fans down so do you blame me for the way I feel? At work the other day, my co-worker larry and me where discussing about the upcoming playoff game with another coworker who was expecting the chargers to win but Larry and I were doubtful that San Diego could pull off such a win and I guess we were correct on this one. I'm sure a lot of people lost a lot of money on the chargers. How do you feel about the San Diego Chargers losing?

Golf accessories

The right golf putters make a huge difference in your golf game. Many golfers make the mistake of focusing solely on their drivers while they should also be making an effort to improve their putting. Regular practice is a "must" when it comes to improving your overall game and the proper clubs will make a difference. When you choose your putters, make sure you choose clubs that you can handle easily and that feel comfortable to you. It might be a good idea to speak with your golfing buddies and find out what types of clubs they use, what they prefer and what they feel comfortable with. They may also be able to offer a variety of recommendations for you. Another way to improve your game is to enroll in golf lessons. Lessons can be something you simply try once or they can be a weekly activity for you on the road to professional golfing. Lessons will help you learn how to hold your clubs correctly, how to best position your body while you swing and how to properly care for your golf clubs. Your instructor will also be able to talk with you about local golfing competitions if you are interested in learning how to compete with other golfers.

The game of golf

I have a friend in our congregation that likes to play golf and has invited me to one of the golf courses here in San Diego to play along with some other friends. It's been awhile since I last swung a golf club and so I would like to get a little practice before I go out with the friends so I don't embarrass myself. Golfing is a game of precision in order that you will hit the ball the furthest with the best accuracy in getting the ball to the hole in the least amount of swings of the golf club. It also helps to have a good set of golf clubs  Playing golf for the first time can really make you nervous since you don't want to look like your an amateur but believe it or not, there are other amateurs playing on the course that you may not know about but after swinging the club a few times you will gain the confidence needed to improve your game. I'm sure there's a lot of programs out there that one could use to help improve his/her game but I don't want to invest a lot of time and money since I don't have a lot of time to be enjoying golf every week. I really need to sit down with someone and have them explain to me the basics of all the golf drivers first before I get into some serious golfing game.

Superbowl win for the New York Giants

Yesterday when I went to work I was able to catch a quarter or two of the New England Patriots New York giants Superbowl game. I was hoping that the New England Patriots would win but was shocked when it came down to the wire and I learned that New York Giants won again. That really disappointed me a lot. I really thought the Patriots would pull this one off but you can't win a Superbowl when you keep dropping passes to your wide receivers. For New England it was too many missed opportunities and New York played much better. This was the second time that New England has lost to New York in a Superbowl contest in the last two years. I'm a San Diego chargers fan because I live in San Diego but I also grew up in Massachusetts so I have some New England history in me too. I don't know what to say about two of y favorite football teams since both of them didn't walk away winning. Oh, well. I guess we'll have to wait for the next season to come.

British teenager bikes on water for good cause

Have you heard the lastest news to hit the web about a british teenager who bikes on water for charity to help flood victims in Londons lake district by riding his bike on a lake 75 feet deep? Matt Whitehurst, 16, insists the pictures are real but he has said he will not disclose how he mangaed to pull off the trick with his bicycle perched atop the waters of England's Lake Buttermere. He pulled off the trick to raise awareness for an upcoming cycling event that will raise money to build bridges destroyed in the 2009 flooding. The 16 year old was quoted as saying " I can't and won't say how I did it, but plenty of people saw me and they"ll confirm it wasn't a camera trick" I'm sure there was some kind of platform propping the 16 year old up on his bike.

Father and Daughter Share Love of Tennis

Thanks for the guest post by Jo Levy

Almost every Saturday morning my daughter and I will play tennis together. We have been playing tennis ever since she was 6 years old. I love playing tennis with my daughter and I can remember when she could hardly pick up the junior racket I had bought for her. Now days my daughter can whip me easily.

My daughter plays on her high school tennis team and is amazingly great. Before a tennis match me will set our home security alarm (adt security Tampa prices) and then head out to the high school. We will always get there early and I will smack some tennis balls her way to let her warm up.

The coach of the tennis team will then show up and ask how she looks for tonight and my response is always the same when I say “She Looks Great”. When the rest of the tennis club shows up I disappear over to the edge of the courts and chat with the other parents who have kids that play on the tennis club.

It amazes me that so few of the parents play tennis. Most of the players on the high school tennis team never played tennis until they where freshman. The coach has done an amazing job over the years teaching the fundamentals of tennis to the kids. My wife says that I would make a great coach but I tell her she is wrong. I just want to spend some time with my daughter.

Cigar guy is born

Do you see the picture of this man? Has anyone here ever seen him before? Is anyone viewing this picture related to this guy? I would say this guy looks like groucho marin Actually, this picture is the latest sensation on the internet of a cigar-chomping man watching tiger woods play golf. A photographer got an amazing shot at the Ryder Cup of tigers woods flubbing a shot headed directly for the camera He didn't duck and Tiger's golf ball actually hit the lens — but not before the image was captured mid-flight. The photo has been seen around the world. The mystery man has been inserted in pictures and shared around the Web. Yahoo! searches for the mustachioed golf fan twirled up 675% in just one day.

An Icelandic team that must spend hours practicing goal celebrations

The video above is already spreading like something involving Justin Bieber and is being described as the greatest goal celebration ever. In it, Icelandic club Stjarnan wins in extra time off a penalty kick from Halldor Orri Bjornsson, giving the team reason to unleash a performance that involves Halldor fishing for his human fish teammate Johann Laxdal ("lax" means salmon in Icelandic). Once "caught," the players lift up Laxdal for a fake picture and thus complete a perfectly executed and delightfully intricate goal celebration that probably took more than a little preparation.

While this is their best, it's not the only display of well-arranged goal celebrating from the Stjarnan boys. The same YouTube user who uploaded this clip on Monday also posted a few more of the same team.

Freediver's breathtaking plunge into abyss part real, part fiction

What a cool video is all I can say about this video. If any of you bloggers know a freediving champion named Guillaume Nery then you'll understand why. I was so impressed by this divers capability to dive to great depths on a single breath of fresh air and base jumping which involves free-falling and parachuting from stationary objects. The camera work was very impressive and done by fellow french freediver Julie Gautier. It makes you wonder how far can a human go on a breath of air. All I can say is that you must watch the video to get a feel for what its like to free fall in this kind of water. Hope you enjoy It!

Oh, come on: one extra club costs Jim Furyk over $130,000

Wow! Did you hear the latest news about Jim furyk? Apparently one little tiny mistake cost him $130, 000 dollars in prize money. What happened you might ask? While at Barclay's over the weekend shooting a round of golf him and his caddy accidently left an extra golf club in his bag. Golfers are allowed 14 clubs in their bags, of course, but Furyk discovered the offending 15th as he was approaching the second green. He was docked four strokes -- two for each hole that he carried the club -- and as a result dropped from sixth to 15th place, a decline which cost him $131,250 in prize money. Ouchhh! Thats gotta hurt big time! The temptation here is to blame Furyk's caddy, Fluff Cowan, but as Furyk notes, it was a chain of events that set off this costly penalty. Furyk was considering using a different wedge but decided not to, but because of rain the cover was left on his bag right until the last minute, and neither he nor Cowan checked to confirm everything was on the up-and-up. (Not that he, you know, shot up a strip club or fought dogs or anything, but this is golf, and golf is an honest game and such matters are no laughing matter. Seriously. Stop laughing.)

Olympics

I have to give Michael Phelps a high five for the major athletic accomplishments he has achieved in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. I'm very happy to hear that our country has broken the world record previously held by swimmer Mark Spitz in 1972. Isn't it just amazing what the human body is capable of doing once you put your mind and effort to it? I wish i had maintained a better physical condition than I'm in now so that i wouldn't feel all the aches and cramps i feel from day to day. I can now see how important it is to be physically active and to maintain a healthy diet to keep your body in top shape. I read the latest article about how Phelps just wanted to do one thing after finishing the Olympics and that was to eat alot of junk food. That's one thing that the U.S.A. is very good at making. More power to the U.S. athletes in their conquest for the gold medals.

Olympics 2008

Dara Torres won the 50-meter freestyle at Sunday night’s U.S. Olympic swimming trials to claim her second berth for the Beijing Olympics 2008. She set an American record in the event with a time of 24.25. Torres had already won the 100 meter last Friday. She will be the oldest American woman ever to compete at the Olympics and also is the first woman to qualify for five Olympics. I was hoping to go somewhat fast,” Torres said. “They have girls in the world who are going 24.1 and 23.9. I have five more weeks to try to drop a couple of tenths to hope to be in competition with those girls. So I’m very happy with my time and I know I have more work to do.” she was quoted as saying. Everyone expected Vendt to challenge, but he apparently wore himself out by swimming the preliminaries Saturday in 14:50.24—more than 12 seconds faster than anyone else. Instead, it was Vanderkaay who overtook Jensen and held on to win in 14 minutes, 45.54 seconds, just off Jensen’s national mark of 14:45.29.“This wasn’t the event I train for primarily, but I’ll take it,” Vanderkaay said.

A Unique Sporting Goods

I want to tell you about some “hip” new sporting goodies I’ve come across lately at a sporting goods store I found online. First, I found these sweet no-tye elastic shoelaces that lock together. You know what that means? No more tying shoelaces for me! These shoelaces eliminate the need for such primitive human behavior. They’re one size fits all and comfortable beyond belief. Frankly, I don’t know how I made it through my life without them. I think these would be great for kids and seniors as well because they wouldn’t have to worry about tripping on their shoelaces anymore. Hmm, maybe I’ll buy these for grandpapa. He could definitely use them when he plays tennis. The other thing I stumbled upon was a compression shirt part of a new breed of steel stretch compression shirts, so I had to buy one. It consists of moisture wicking fabric, which means my body has no trouble “breathing” at all. This shirt draws sweat away from the body, so it keeps me cool in warm weather, and warm in cold weather. It’s the best of both worlds. This particular shirt is unisex, and it’s comprised of antibacterial properties that help to eliminate body odor and permeate a sense of freshness. I like the collar on the shirt as well. Very snug. Oh, I almost forgot. I also came across a bullpen buddy, which is an inflatable batter that helps pitchers improve their technique. Getting that for cousin Eldred.
